I never expected that the kiwifruit would be so versatile an ingredient. This weekend, we had an Indian potluck party, and Aly suggested that I bring something with kiwifruit. Since Aly was making tandoori prawns and chicken, I figured that my homemade kiwifruit, apple, lemongrass and chilli jam/chutney would go wonderfully with the tandoori dishes, and true enough it did. It’s always good to complement spicy dishes with something sweet and tart, and the chutney did the trick marvellously. I also made a kiwifruit and cucumber raita for the party. Again, a dish with yoghurt is often a good accompaniment for spicy food as it reduces the heat intensity. Enjoy the pictures!
Kiwifruit and cucumber raita
1 kiwifruit – diced
1 cucumber – seeded and sliced
1 cup plain low-fat yoghurt
A dash of garam masala
Juice of half a lemon
Mix cucumber, yoghurt and garam masala in a bowl. Squeeze juice of half a lemon. Add kiwifruit just before serving.
Since Sunday is the day of rest, there will be no taunting of my arch nemesis. I’m sure he misses me already.
