Yut Kee’s Roasted Pork

roasted pork

It had been ages that I’d visited Yut Kee, and so on a nice Sunday morning after church, spurred by an article in Time Out Kuala Lumpur on breakfasts, the husband and I made our way to ye olde Yut Kee. Β  Still going strong with a long queue just before noon, I reckon they must be doing something right to sustain all that enthusiasm for their food.

roasted pork

I soon found out why.

roasted pork

Delectable roasted pork served only on Fridays and Sundays from 11.00am till it’s sold out just after 12 noon. Β  An amazing marketing strategy (because a demand is created by limited supply), but morally justified by delicious slices of roasted pork, the skin crunchy and brittle, the meat tender and succulent, and all complemented by a sweet and slightly tart apple sauce.

Heaven.

My earlier writeup on Yut Kee can be foundΒ HERE. Β Another writeup on the roasted pork can be found HERE.

    Dharm: It is!!

LFB: Poor thing you. More for me. ^_^

theNomadGourmand: I know…I keep getting hungry everytime I visit the blog! ^_^

yin: I wouldn’t be so evil. πŸ˜› Oh, then again, I would! Muahahahhaha.

Precious Pea: Got hints of both, sista dear.

Ryonn: I know what you mean. We should be made to consume 8 meals a day (at least).

peter chong: Yup, do let me know what you think of it. Happy eating!

thule aka leo: …and it’s only available fridays and sundays. πŸ™‚

Cee: Yup, that musta been me. πŸ™‚ Aiyah, you shuda said hi! πŸ™‚

Vivien: Sorry, I forgot to take note of the price. I do remember paying 40 something bucks for 2 drinks, a box of swiss rolls, 2 servings of roti babi and 2 servings of roasted pork (1 serving = 2 slices). (Update: According to kampungboycitygal, it’s RM90 per roll)

Tummythoz: hear hear (your stomach rumbling)…

KY: Gotta wait till Friday, bro. πŸ˜›

Jackson Kah: I knew this would get your attention, seeing what a big fan you are of all things babi. Hehe.

fatboybakes: Oh, the drama (as always), tangechi! You’re right…the chinese have mastered the art of cooking the babi. I already have one leg in the chinak-dom what. Enuff la. My hands still wanna be stuck in some Banana Leaf Rice.

  4. omg, porky goodness… hey, how did you get so close to the pork to take a photo? Were you making small talk with the chef? haha…

or took it when they weren’t looking? Must tell me ur secret so I can do it for my site as well…

  5. William: Anyone can take photos of that pork up close, dear. The rolls are placed at the entrance of the shop where the lady proceeds to slice them and serve them. No secret, hor?

Henry Yeo: Oh dear, sounds like a serious case of babititis. Hehe. Fridays and Sundays only ar.

tigerfish: Yes, ma’am. DHL to you?

  6. The interesting part, to me, is that westernised aspects of it, like the rolling of the belly, the apple sauce and the choice of knife (not the typical chinese chopper).

    What a perfect day, hor?

  7. i was just wondering who could hav made such a wonder when the picture popped up on flickr..wat a surprise that it came out from yut kee!…

Friday and Sundays? aiseh..such a short time too…

  8. what?!! Yut Kee got roast pork with apple sauce?!!

never knew, and never read b4. damn, I missed this lah …. and I think i went on a Sunday noon some more.

  9. HairyBerry: It is quite westernised, if you ask me. Gawd, thinking of it makes me salivate again. Yeah, it was a lovely day. πŸ˜€

ck lam: Oh yes, must try for sure!! Happy eating!

lotsofcravings: Yeah, I was surprised too coz I wasn’t expecting to see such a beauty when I went to Yut Kee.

J2Kfm: Yeah man, looks like you gotta revisit! (Call me!)

  10. Now which cut of pork is this? Belly? And what’s inside? I am tempted to try to make one myself. Perhaps a flat piece of belly rolled with asparagus and ham, twined up before sending it to roast in the oven.

Oh what the heck, I’ll just meet you for bfast there in a few months time! πŸ˜€

  11. Hi Meena, Still love the blog and the pictures are good enough to eat. Only trouble is you’d turn a committed vegetarian (like me) into a raging carnivore!
Yut Kee is close to my heart because in the nineties I used to work across the street and I’d pop in ever so often to pick up the swiss rolls and the kaya – haven’t done that in a while, maybe its time to re-visit.

    Satya

  12. GFAD: Definitely belly. Got pistachios and some fruit or other inside…hardly recognisable since they’re chopped into tiny bits. I think you’ll do a great version of this. You’re a great cook!

Cynthia: I’m sorry! Wish I could share some with you!

Satya: Hiya! I’m sorry that the pictures are tempting…I can’t help but be tempted everytime I look at them too. Maybe it’s time for me to do a vegetarian post soon, eh? Would love to hear of some recommendations from you! Have a good weekend!

  13. hiyo! I went this morning! and u know wat! it RM100 per roll now!! wahhh.. I got 2 slices, yup..2 slices for RM10.

Had to try..wat to do.. but yeah..its moist, tender and the skin..goes *crunch crunch crunch* .. LOL!

  14. rokh: It was very nice meeting you too! (Sorry, somehow your comment ended up in my Spam box and I just fished it out there!)

thenomadGourmand: Thanks for the update! It’s kinda expensive, I guess, but I’d still get it! So addictive la. πŸ˜›
