He thought I couldn’t pull off a surprise birthday party for him.  But I succeeded.

Timeline: T minus 5 days

Bald Eagle: “So is there a surprise party?”

Me: “Nope, it’s an intimate dinner for two.”

Timeline: T minus 4 days

Bald Eagle: “There’s a surprise party, isn’t there?”

Me: “Nope, we are having an intimate dinner for two.”

Timeline: T minus 3 days

Bald Eagle: “You don’t have to surprise me.  I know there’s a surprise party.”

Me: “Nope, it’s an intimate dinner for two.”

Timeline: T minus 2 days

Bald Eagle: “So who’s coming?  Is FBB coming?”

Me: “Listen to me.  It’s.  An.  Intimate.  Dinner.  For.  Two.”

Timeline:  T minus 1 day

Bald Eagle: “So where’s the surprise party going to be held?  Wanna see my surprised look?”

Me: “Dinner for two.”

Timeline: D-Day

Bald Eagle: “Where’s the party?”

Me: “Look at me.  Do I look like I’m lying?  It’s an intimate dinner for two.”

I waited for him at il Lido, at a table for two, and engaged him in conversation for a good fifteen minutes.  Once he looked like he was comfortable and had accepted the fact that it would be an intimate dinner for two after all, the others jumped out from the private room and yelled “Surprise”.

He was surprised.

I’ll take that award now, thank you.
