Diamonds usually do it.Β But not all the time.
When I want to meet up with my girlfriends, I know exactly where to go. And now, there is a new location for the same delectable, titillating, scrumptious cakes…the same variety that was available in Bangsar more than ten years ago.
The trademark tiramisu, which is more of a tiramisu cake rather than a tiramisu but oh-so-delicious with its fluffy texture and nutty toppings.
The steamed chocolate cake is another old favourite with its dense texture, and paired with the vanilla ice cream, is a classic combination.
They call it a meringue, but it tastes like pavlova to me. The marshmallowy texture, fresh cream and mixed fruits makes this a winner in my books. Plus it doesn’t feel as heavy as the other cakes (I try not to think of the amount of sugar that has gone into this confection) so my mind is a little at ease.Β False illusions undoubtedly.
And then there is the humble bread and butter pudding, bathed in luxurious custard sauce. An addiction from 10 years ago at Alexis Bangsar, when I was a mere wisp of a girl. You there, stop choking.
Β Service was excellent.
Diamonds?Β Don’t need them, baby.
(I hope Bald Eagle is not reading this.)

We tried some of the mains as well. She had the sarawak laksa while I had the fried kerabu rice. Both were unsatisfactory. The sarawak laksa was substandard and lacking in flavour (whatever happened to the sarawak laksa, a popular order, at the Bangsar establishment?) while the fried rice which I ordered was soggy, a big no-no, and a further disappointment considering we were forking out RM19 for each of the mains.
Sarawak Laksa
Fried kerabu rice
haha yes i knew it! must have been right along the way when i kept taking her out for desserts..but maybe thats y she stopping desserts..bcoz she still want diamonds? crap
oh gosh..those desserts…. yes, what else can a girl want? *look around quickly to see her fiance doesn’t see this..*
Joe: hehehe. You’re in trouble, boy! Now go pamper your girl!
daphne: LOL. That’s our secret, eh? π
Haha…. that’s not so secret anymore ^^
I think I’ll go to their Bangsar outlet if I’m craving for Alexis.
the berries meringue looks so pretty and tasted so delicious…
but i still want my diamonds !! :p
Your opening line killed me: “Diamonds usually do it. But not all the time.”
And then your finisher went and killed me again: “Diamonds? Donβt need them, baby. (I hope Bald Eagle is not reading this.)”
So, you’re guilty of murdering me. Twice. With mirth. And magnificent photos of very, very guilty pleasures. Oh me oh my…
Lady Lemongrass, I do believe I’m falling in Lub with you again…
jason: well, nowadays there are loads of options out there. I like the Gardens outlet coz the furniture is comfy!
ling239: hehehe. think of how many cakes you can get with just one diamond?
Kenny Mah: What you mean “again”? Cheh…I thought u always lub me wan. No, no, don’t tell me you lub me now….boohooo….it’s….*sob*….tooo….*sob*…..LATE!!
*SLAP* *SLAP* What are you talking about woman?! *SLAP* Are you delirious or something?! *SLAP* hahaha
Diamonds last about the same time as the effects of those cakes on the hips hor? Those cakes were divine and really completed the evening. Otherwise it would’ve been like foreplay without sex, chicken without the rice,….
Oh it was just like in Heaven, just like bumping into movie stars so glamour! it was fun bumping into you two at pavilion, forgot to ask an autography for my mum! ***twink***twink***
I love the tiramisu. To me, it’s the best in town in terms of taste, texture and flavour. Clothed with nuts yet seductively soaked in cognac. Nice!
There are many other kinda things that makes a girl go weak in her knees but i shall not go there…hehehe
love ur photograhy!!!! omg not onli my knees go weak.. but i’m melting for the fabulous tiramisu~
Even with two thumbs down for the laksa and fried rice, the picture still looks good to me. And ooo..those cakes. Craving for something sweet now!
Waa…Can’t i have both diamonds and the cakes?
But for the mean time, before my prince charming appear in my life, i stay be contented with the cakes alone.
Yumm~
Mmmmm.. I have some strawberries and blueberries in the fridge now. Maybe a cream cheese tart? Pavlova and meringue not the same thing, meh?
I beg to differ.. I’d much rather have a diamond ring sparkling at me on my dresser rather than a shiny strawberry flan glistening at me in the fridge..
bangs FBB on the back…
‘Diamonds. Don’t need them, baby.’ NOT today, u forgot to add.
how absolutely divine! you’ve got me wetting my desk with saliva….
I want!
Paprika: Thanks…you just slapped my ears off, so I won’t need no diamond earrings no more.
BBO: You’ve been to Heaven and back? Yeah, it was nice bumping into you at Times. Yeah…at the Anthropology section, right? *cough cough*
Nic: like what ar? *eyes wide open in rapt attention*
yammylicious: Oh….Nic got to you, huh?
Precious Pea: Oooh will I be hearing some good news soon? *wink wink*
Jojo: I suppose you can have your cake and eat it too, but look what it did to Fatboybakes.
kat: You see (putting on Professor’s topi)….a pavlova has a texture akin to a marshmallow, i.e. a little soft, cushiony and chewy, while a meringue has a more crisp texture. (One big star to LL for paying attention during Paprika’s class.) And dahlink, when in Abu Dhabi, you need more than A diamond ring to impress lar, especially with all those rich tycoons floating around with wives in tow.
Tummythoz: You’ve been talking to my husband, haven’t you?
anucia: Wetting, eh? Now other images are coming to mind, but I’m not that kinda girl. *wink*
I absolutely love your blog. You take amazing pictures! Even the dish that was a no-no according to your review looked extremely yummy!
at least we know what to get you for your special occasions. the only question is what is your limit?
Andie Summerkiss: Thank you. π I guess sometimes looks can be deceiving? hehe. Hey, thanks for visiting! π
Henry Yeo: no, the question is, how deep is your pocket?
Yumz!! π i am drooling at the cakes! Which means my appetite is back!
alexis tiramisu (cake)..one of my fave! utterly delicious *drools*
Haiya! All these cakes are making me wanna bake a French apple pie or a banana-walnut-sultana whatchamacallit. Tomorrow, tomorrow! Is another baking day…
Yes, I went to Alexis, Bangsar, a few times like a trillion years ago.
There must be some strange secrets in cakes that captivate the inner desires of the feminine genders. Maybe its the lippilicious creamy colors we are still trying to unlock but dun think getting anywhere near. The other 19 plus look like worth more than 25 each but alas , they must have gone to the ambience instead !
i wasn’t gonna say anything until i saw kat slapping me on the back. how did IIII get dragged into this?
i can but roll my eyes when a woman compares the satisfaction derived from diamonds to be on par with that from cake.
diamonds are just glorified nuggets of carbon. burn the cake, dahlink, and sit on the ashes and hope it’ll turn into a diamond.
oh, yar, re the topic at hand… my all time favourite in alexis is the pear and ginger upside pudding…but apparently the one in TOPHATS is better, coz their treacle ice cream is divine. the tiramisu is okay la, i think a bit done to death oridi. the B&B pudding is deeeeeeevine…. not a meringue/pav fan….there’s enough sugar there to turn me into a sugar daddy…
as usual, STUNNING food porn, making the stuff look better than it actually is.
the cakes look lovely…must try it out one day! I’ve tagged you btw π check out my site for the rules…
neko-hime: That’s wonderful to hear! Glad to know you’ve recovered. π
sc: I agree with you. Almost as if there’s ganja in it! kekeke.
argus: Yes, time does fly when you’re away. The trillion years you talked about is about 10 years only lar dear. Remember there was a botak dude there? I think he’s still there la. hehe. I envy you flers who don’t have a working schedule to control your lives. Can wake up at 3 in the morning to read lah, can bake anytime lah….sheesh. π
team bsg: Even those days, I thought the laksa, etc was a bit expensive, but I was willing to pay becoz of the quality. Now….I’ll keep my money for the RM12 cakes instead. Better returns for sure!
fatboybakes: Thus says the baker. We lub you, bakerboy. That’s why we talk about you all da time. I’ve never had the pear and ginger upside down pudding in Top Hats before, and now you’ve just tempted me to go there. So much food, so little time…arrrgghhh! And thanks for the compliment…I think.
Alexandra: They used to be one of the few places that served good cakes those days. Now, there are more options out there, of course. Thanks…will do the tag. π
I love fried kerabu rice.
yeah the cakes looks amazing man.
Mouth watering looking at your meringue. You took really nice photos…
Haha! I do agree with you that girls really do like desserts. But I do like diamonds too! Haha! Anyway, I’m going to drag e siong to Alexis for dessert, the photos were fantastic!
Aiyah, take the diamond first….then ask for desserts. I’m sure you’ll get both! After all, a slice of cake after handing you diamonds??? Easy peasy! LOL!
Thank you! i know where to meet my friends (with money for the luxury to dine) at now! π
Bummer the mains ain’t good.. π
ok.. u just changed my mind. i’ll head to alexis in menara GE insteat for Ampang YTF. (And …diamons on a cake… this is for bald eagle to read)
ya, i agree with mamabok…the mains in alexis are very so-so. not to mention exorbitant prices, what? RM18 for a chicken rice that really, tastes the same as in a kopitiam. the sarawak laksa okaylah, got maybe 2 more shrimp than the kopitiam ones…
Obviously you wanted to upload me all the “sugars” so that the sarawak laksa and fried rice won’t appeal to me at all! hhahaha…no wonder it was sub-standard to me even if it was “virtual” π
BAKERZin vs Alexis ……. which one taste better? Any of their cakes can kill Strawberry short cake from BAKERZin?
Ling: Yeah..kerabu is sooooo refreshing. π Love it too.
celine: thanks! It’s actually very delicious.
Sugar Bean: Ah, lucky is the girl who can have her cake and eat it too!
wmw: I gotta work on da man. π
dD: yeah…it’s a nice place to hang out with friends. π
Mama BoK: Ya lor…or else, it’d be perfect.
teckiee: Diamonds on a cake, eh? What if ter-swallow? Then gotta eat loads of prunes and bananas. Ewww.
fatboybakes: It’s a pity, isn’t it? But what to do…when you’re in The Gardens, there ain’t many places that serve cheap food. Remind me to tell you about my RM40 Indian meal that I had there…for one person, ok..don’t pray2.
tigerfish: Hahaha. Sorry la dear. I’m sure you can do a better sarawak laksa and fried rice at home, what with your skills and all!
email2me: Oh, I’d choose Alexis for cakes any time. Strawberry shortcake ar…I don’t think there’s an equivalent in Alexis…I could be wrong, though.
I’m so heading here soon! π
I’m always blown away at how good your on location food shots look ! My outside food photo’s look like **** and I’m so scared to take pictures in restaurants! I have a manager yell at me one time!:(
BTW- our first cooking video is up!
hey, i dropped by courtesy of a link on Joe’s lots of cravings. Your picture of the meringue is making me salivate at the moment.
I’ve been to the Ampang Alexis almost every month and sometimes, they practically RUN OUT of all the good desserts. So I’m definitely going to try this by hook or by crook the next time.
I agree with you on the plush seats of Gardens Alexis, plus the last time I was there, they had cute waiters all around haha! π
p.s. next time u go, try their Mini Mains or small portion mains (or whatever they call it) the Salmon, though pricey is really yummy! (at least at Ampang they are)
Christine: Can’t resist, eh? LOL.
White On Rice Couple: Thank you! I’m always in awe of your pictures too. Quite inspiring for a novice photographer like me! It’s a pity abt the yelling…a courteous request is all that’s needed. I usually think it’s their loss.
piggi3 princ3ss s3r3na: Welcome welcome! Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I think you’ll have better luck at getting your favourite cakes at The Gardens coz it’s less busy there. Will try their Mini Mains next. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hey babe, it was swell meeting you! Have finally settled down in front of the computer, whew! Diamonds don’t really cut it for me since they’re not edible, heh heh!
Say, I almost had Sarawak Laksa today out of curiosity (at this Laksa franchise in Pavilion) but ended up eating something even more “exotic” for me – Mee Jawa. π Sudahlah.. Will definitly go back to KL to see you! Hugs!
the cakes there do make me go weak in the knees. not such a fan of the food though. mmmm… meringue…
“…….. ” (still choking) I really like the idea of kerabu rice. But kerabu anything sounds good. In fact I always kerabu the smoked mackerel here cos it reminds me of ikan kembong, but haven’t got round to the sambal belacan. Too bad it wasn’t as nice as it could be…aww. Did you eat ALL THAT CAKE??
cake!!!!!
Shilpa: Hey girl!! Aiyoh, you need to be exposed more to Malaysian food outside the Pavilion ler. Yeah, come back soon to KL, woman! Great meeting you too….sorry I scared you with my driving. Yeah…”red” means “stop”….I’ll try to remember that.
Bee Nee: Haha…you’re just like me then! π Yeah…Mmm….Meringue!!
Msiagirl: Yar lor….I love kerabu anything too. It just feels so healthy, doesn’t it?? I think your neighbours at Shakespeare land won’t be very pleased to smell belacan (although I wonder why when it’s the best smell in the whole world). No…I didn’t have ALL that cake…although I think I could manage it. π
Nicole: Hehe. One of the best four letter words around!
wahhhh so many berry berry on cake…I like!
:S They call that nasi goreng kerabu??? ekks >,<
Hi Lyrical Lemongrass, I stopped dropping by your blog since the website move awhile ago, and my passion for travelling to KL for the food similarly waned. But now that I’m back to reading your entries regularly, the cravings have all come back again! Great pics of those yummylicious cakes! Can’t wait to go try them myself!~
