Drinking my vegetables and fruits – with Zespri kiwifruit

P1160681

Made a green smoothie today using a whole head of broccoli, an avocado and a green kiwifruit.  Topped it off with a cup of low fat unsweetened yoghurt.  I didn’t feel like adding any other liquids to my smoothie today as I wanted something quite slushy, halfway between drinking and eating my vegetables and fruits.  It’s a great alternative to having nasi lemak for breakfast, and it’s pretty tasty too.  Just be sure to rinse the greens well.

Hmmmm.  Been awhile since I had nasi lemak for breakfast….. Time for a binge.  Next week.  Today, I’m a cow. (Call me Moo-na)

Zespri should seriously hire me to reach out to children. *ahem*

DID YOU KNOW that Zespri kiwis have 5 times the nutrients of an apple?  You can read all about it at their website.  Anyhow, I prefer the taste of kiwis to apples any day.

I just got my delivery of Zespri gold and sungold kiwis and they’re apparently packed with more nutrients and Vitamin C compared to the green ones.  I’ll leave you with  some pretty pictures to contemplate that.  😀

A riot of colours – An Indian meal (with a guest appearance by Zespri kiwifruit)

I never expected that the kiwifruit would be so versatile an ingredient.  This weekend, we had an Indian potluck party, and Aly suggested that I bring something with kiwifruit.  Since Aly was making tandoori prawns and chicken, I figured that my homemade kiwifruit, apple, lemongrass and chilli jam/chutney would go wonderfully with the tandoori dishes, and true enough it did.  It’s always good to complement spicy dishes with something sweet and tart, and the chutney did the trick marvellously.  I also made a kiwifruit and cucumber raita for the party.  Again, a dish with yoghurt is often a good accompaniment for spicy food as it reduces the heat intensity.  Enjoy the pictures!

Kiwifruit and cucumber raita

1 kiwifruit – diced
1 cucumber – seeded and sliced
1 cup plain low-fat yoghurt
A dash of garam masala
Juice of half a lemon

Mix cucumber, yoghurt and garam masala in a bowl. Squeeze juice of half a lemon. Add kiwifruit just before serving.

Since Sunday is the day of rest, there will be no taunting of my arch nemesis.  I’m sure he misses me already.
